With over 150 different types of dementia, designing environments which cater for the varying needs of each individual can be a challenge. We are trained in dementia friendly design and understand how applying some key design principles can make an enormous different to the comfort and behaviour of residents and consequently support the care team. Using the appropriate parts of the Sterling Dementia Design guidelines, we can work with you to create a safe haven for residents or patients who suffer from dementia.
We have worked on previous dementia projects in London and Dorset and are currently working on care units in Ipswich and Scarborough.
Homesmiths designed and implemented a splendid refurbishment of our social centre for the older residents of Lewes during 2014. They came up with attractive proposals for soft furnishings, colour schemes and finishes, placed the orders, contracted the decorators and flooring firms and provided oversight to the whole project. Homesmiths understood the needs of older people, were ready to engage in helpful dialogue throughout the process and to make any necessary adjustments once the scheme had been ‘road-tested’ by our members. Homesmiths provided friendly, timely and professional guidance and support without which we could not have achieved such an attractive and comfortable ‘new-look’ at the Lewes House of Friendship.
