Formed in 2001 by David and Jacqui Smith, HomeSmiths is a Sussex based, family run interior design practice working with residential clients, national property developers, healthcare providers and also on commercial projects, offering a full service from the design to the install stages.
Meet The Team
Jacqui is a creative ex-marketer with a keen eye for colour and detail. She has been a professional member of SBID since 2012 and is now SBID Regional Director for the South East. Jacqui has experience of working with major housing developers on large contracts and also specialises in interior design for people with visual impairments and has a deep understanding dementia friendly design.
David, a former cabinet maker, is our main project manager and his practical background is invaluable on site. He still enjoys designing bespoke pieces for clients and is the resident kitchen and bathroom expert! David has won 5 Guildmarks as a cabinet maker, for excellence in craftsmanship. He also was awarded ‘Guildmark of the Year’ in 1990 by The Worshipful Company of Furniture Makers.
Jenna joined in August 2013 and is our Excel genius, setting up all of our spreadsheets and freeing up valuable time for the designers. She deals with the costings and ordering across all projects as well as liaising with our suppliers, ensuring that deadlines are met and deliveries arrive when they need to.
Catherine joined us in March 2016 with a background in fashion as well as some hands on experience in the care industry. When it comes to interior design Catherine is a natural and has already made her mark on a number of projects, specifically health care. In September Catherine was promoted from Design Assistant to Assistant Designer.
Additionally we are delighted to work regularly with fabulous, local curtain maker Katie Islam and creative cushion maker Soozi Jenner, Sussex based Trackman who we use for our residential projects and Ena Shaw for our healthcare design projects.
Having come from varying backgrounds ourselves, HomeSmiths believe in offering a helping hand to those who are interested in working in the Interior Design industry. As such, we have had some fantastic team members who have added so much value to the business and thoroughly enjoyed their time working with us.
Kirsty Corcoran was with us for 6 months in 2011, and went on to secure a Junior Designer role in an Interior Design practice in London.
Katy May joined us for a week work experience then spent 3 years with us first as a Junior Designer before being promoted to Assistant Designer. Having made a great contribution to our business, Katy moved away from the area in June 2015 and now works for Paperchase as Visual Merchandising Manager.
Sophie McKenzie joined us for the summer of 2013 whilst studying Interior Design at Leeds College of Art. Sophie graduated in 2014 and now works for an interior design practice in London.
Kathryn Wade interned with us in the autumn of 2013 and continued to helps us on subsequent show home installs.
