About Us

Formed in 2001 by David and Jacqui Smith, HomeSmiths is a Sussex based, dynamic husband and wife led interior design practice specialising in dementia friendly interior design.  Working with retirement living providers and care home operators, they offer a range of services from design concepts, full project specification through to fit out.

Meet The Team

Jacqui Smith

Director

Jacqui is a specialist design for sensory and cognitive decline, with a keen eye for colour and detail. She has been a professional member of SBID since 2012 and HomeSmiths’ projects have been shortlisted for a number of design awards. Jacqui is an experienced healthcare designer with a deep understanding of dementia friendly design having completed courses with both Stirling University and Hammond Care. Keen to share her knowledge with the next generation of healthcare designers, Jacqui gives talks to Universities and is regularly asked to speak at events both on and off line. As a volunteer, Jacqui has been Chair of Haywards Heath Dementia Friendly Community since September 2018 and is currently working with Alzheimer’s Society in Mid Sussex.

David Smith

Director

David, a former cabinet maker with over 30 years’ experience in furniture making, is our main project manager; his practical background is invaluable on site. He provides the in house CAD resource and is responsible for the design and specification of fitted furniture across all projects such as TV unit, reception desks, nurses’ stations, bookcases and leads on the design of kitchens, en-suites and assisted bathrooms. David has won 5 Guildmarks as a cabinet maker, for excellence in craftsmanship. He was also awarded ‘Guildmark of the Year’ in 1990 by The Worshipful Company of Furniture Makers. David’s bathroom designs have also made finalist in some Kitchen and Bathroom Awards.

Jenna Gale

Project Co-ordinator

Having joined HomeSmiths in August 2013, Jenna is a key part of the team. Her role is largely admin based, freeing up valuable time for the design team. She sets up project schedules, deals with the costings and ordering across all projects as well as liaising with our suppliers, contractors and clients ensuring that deadlines are met and deliveries arrive when they need to. Jenna also does the day to day accounts side as well as managing the website and social media. Clients will often comment on how much they appreciate Jenna’s efficiency, as do the designers!

Additionally we are delighted to work regularly with fabulous, local curtain maker Katie Islam and creative cushion maker Soozi Jenner, Sussex based Trackman who we use for our residential projects and DJM Designs for our healthcare design projects.
